So you’ve got a bare spot in your back lawn? What are you going to do?
You’ve tried everything. You’ve over seeded, you’ve watered it, you’ve pruned the trees to let in more light. But the fact is that it’s just too shady, and it’s just too steep, and the soil is too clayey to grow a lawn alone.
You know, when life deals you lemons you ought to make lemonade. I’ve got a solution for a problem like this. Come over here. If you’ve got a bare spot like this in your backyard, the thing to do is to plant a shade garden featuring hosta lilies.
They’re beautiful. Everybody likes hostas. And they thrive in full shade and they’ll compete very well with the roots of these trees.
You’re going to do something like this. The first step is to outline the bed, perhaps with a garden hose, and then spray everything inside the bed with Round-Up to get rid of what little existing vegetation there is.
Then go to your local garden center or nursery, choose the hostas of your dreams, begin planting. And the next step is to apply mulch. A good thick layer of organic mulch will keep down the erosion, prevent future weed growth and it’ll retain moisture. All at the same time. It looks nice too.
When Planting A Hosta Garden…
- Outline your bed with a garden hose
- Spray your bed with Round-Up
- Plant in full shade
- Apply mulch to keep down erosion, prevent future weed growth and retain moisture
